2/2 (cut time, notated as a C with a vertical line) has two half-note beats per measure. Visually it looks like 4/4 with the same notes, but the conductor beats in 2, not 4. This makes everything feel twice as fast at the same BPM. Common in fast orchestral passages, marches, and any 4/4 that needs to pick up the pace without changing the notation.
